Metal Source Expands to Southern Indiana

Gebhart Holdings has acquired the assets of Bedford Recycling, Inc. with two locations in Bedford, IN and Mitchell, IN. Bedford Recycling’s facilities include an auto shredder, chopping line, and other ferrous and nonferrous processing capabilities. These facilities will be Metal Source’s 8th and 9th locations, and it will also mark Metal Source’s first auto shredder.

The purchase follows Metal Source’s 2021 acquisitions of Decatur Salvage, a 12-acre metals recycling facility at 7870 US 27 in Decatur, Indiana, and Secondary Metals, which operated a 2-acre yard in Peru, Indiana. In 2022, the company purchased Huntington Aluminum in Huntington, Indiana.

“I’m thrilled to announce this purchase,” said Ben Gebhart, CEO of Gebhart Holdings. “This will allow our company to expand our capabilities and footprint, as well as allow for integration and diversification within our current business. Geographically, this will allow for additional support in the area for other businesses we service.”

Local Student Creates Scrap Metal Art

Layne Denton, a Junior at Northfield Jr/Sr High School, used our Wabash, Indiana Metal Source scrap yard for his year-long art project. He completed this intricate, jaw dropping scrap metal sculpture for his Sculpture II Course. Layne stopped by the scrap yard in November of 2022 to pick out scrap metal pieces to start this project – 4 months later he had created the pictured masterpiece.

“I have seen the recycled metal sculptures around Wabash and on the internet and found them to be fascinating. So, when I was assigned an open concept sculpture for the first project of my Sculpture II course, this was the first thing that came to mind. From there, I had to problem solve the entire process from the sketch to gathering materials to cleaning found materials to placing the materials into a coherent order to fit the form and then welding all the pieces together. I would like to add a huge THANK YOU to all the people who helped me along the way. Thank you to Mrs. Meyer (Ag Teacher at Northfield) for allowing me to use the Ag Department welder, Cory Floyd (Metal Source Plant Manager) for staying after hours and allowing me to gather resources for my sculpture, Ben Gebhart (Gebhart Holdings CEO) for making this project even happen through providing resources and additional assistance that was needed late in the process of completing this piece, Mr. Z. (Art teacher at Northfield) for his support and understanding. I am very excited to have it finished and hope to have this piece on display for the Wabash County High Show Art Exhibition at the Honeywell Center next month,” says Layne Denton, Junior at NHS.
